WRP Update — Buckle Up, It's a Three-Meet Weekend!
Yes, you read that right. THREE meets in one weekend. If you've ever wondered whether you're getting your money's worth from swim team, this is your weekend. This also make up for the following weekend with zero meets. Find your goggles now.
Please sign up or express interest in these meets by Thursday morning.
Saturday — Home Meet vs. Golden
We're hosting! That means it's our pool, our rules, our snack table. As a home meet, we need all hands on deck — and the good news is there are plenty of jobs to go around. Timing, running lanes, cheering obnoxiously loud — it's all on the table. Feel free to volunteer for something new.
Only officials require training - but if you are official-curious, ask and we can get you involved..
Sunday, — C/D Meet at Splash (Golden)
For our newer swimmers and those looking to try new events, the C/D Meet Splash is YOUR meet. Warm-ups start at 6:00 AM and the meet kicks off at 7:00 AM
To compete in an event, your best time must be slower than a B time — this meet is designed for newer swimmers and anyone branching out into unfamiliar events. No sandbaggers allowed (you know who you are).
And did someone say RIBBONS? Yes. Ribbons for every event. Come get your hardware.
Speaking of ribbons — we owe some of you an apology. There has been a delay getting ribbons out, but the file box has been updated and is ready to go. Thanks for your patience. Your ribbons have been waiting for you with great anticipation.
Sunday, Also — The Applewood Athletic Club Pentathlon
For our more experienced swimmers, Sunday also brings the Applewood Athletic Club Pentathlon — five events, one very tired athlete, and the glory of knowing you did it.
To qualify, swimmers need a B time or better in 4 of the 5 events. Here's the fun twist: times earned Saturday count! So swim fast on Saturday and you might just earn yourself more swimming on Sunday. You're welcome.
All swimmers compete in all five events, and overall winners are determined by the fastest cumulative time. Think of it as a swimming buffet — except you can't skip the vegetables.
These Times Count — League and State
Both Sunday meets and Saturday's meet are official FSA Summer League meets. That means times count toward League and State qualifying. There are two paths to these meets:
- Qualify individually — hit the required time in your event
- Fill a relay — each relay requires at least one individually qualified swimmer, and we're often looking for additional swimmers to round out relay teams
B/League and State qualifying times can be found on the attached PDF or on the website. Your coaches are happy to talk through which events and times make sense for you — just ask!
League Swag -
Marlins are hosting the League meet at Splash this year on July 17-19. League shirts and hoodies are available for pre-sale at the link below. Pre-sales will be open until June 28th. Orders will be available for pick up at League.
There will be some inventory for in-person sales at League. Prices will be slightly higher and colors/sizes will be limited. ORDER HERE
A Note on Volunteers — We Need You Sunday's meets too!
As you know by now, meets don't run themselves. Families and friends are the ones who transform an ordinary pool into the exciting, chaotic, wonderful venue our kids get to compete in. We love you for it.
This Sunday, both meets are essentially away meets, which means we need timers and officials to show up and represent. (For those wondering — yes, these are the same key roles at League and State meets too. More details on those coming next month!)
So if you can help Sunday morning, please sign up. Your swimmer will appreciate it. Probably. Eventually.
Take Monday off! Because of all this fun, no practice on Monday, June (not May) 29th.
See you on the pool deck — all weekend long! 🏊
