Home Meet Saturday — 5 Parks, Volunteers Needed!
Hi Piranhas Families,
Great meet at Genesee, everyone! This week we have our first home meet against 5 Parks. Home meets are the best — because our pool is the best. 🏊
Signing Up to Swim
Hopefully the process is feeling familiar by now! Using Swimtopia, pick up to 3 individual events for your swimmer. If your swimmer doesn't want to be in relays, just let the coaches know — otherwise, coaches will do their best to get everyone into relays. Don't panic if you can't figure out the app. Coaches can register swimmers too. Please register by Thursday morning.
Volunteering — Home Meet Edition
Home meets have more volunteer jobs than away meets, including:
- Heating — getting swimmers lined up in the right rows and columns. Val has this process down to a science.
- Computer — collecting results from our semi-automated timing system and printing them. Not as cumbersome as it sounds!
- Concessions — we sell the absolute best coffee in the league (from Stylus and Crate), burritos, donuts, and other snacks.
- Timing — same as away meets.
- Officials & Starter — requires some training, but if you're interested, please ask!
Job descriptions can be found under Swim Meet 101 [link]. And a reminder — at every volunteer position, you can take a break to watch your swimmer's races (provided you know when they're swimming — I often forget myself).
With so many returning families, we have a wealth of experience across all of these roles. It makes for a smooth, well-run meet and we're grateful for it!
Setup — Morning of the Meet
Our swimmers are in the water at 6:00 AM for warm-ups. While they're warming up, we're setting up — this mostly involves moving tables, chairs, and equipment from storage. Just find someone in a Piranhas shirt and ask how you can help. (And if you've ever secretly wanted to join the circus, we have a 20x20 foot heating tent that is genuinely fun to put together.)
Teardown — Please Don't Sneak Out!
At the end of the meet, please resist the urge to rush home and make a trip or two to return things to storage. With a dozen people helping it takes about 10 minutes. With just four, considerably longer.
