WRP News - Tie Dye Party, Official Training / Summer Season Info
Hi Piranhas Families,
Lots of exciting things happening this week and next — read on!
First - if you haven't yet registered for summer season, you can do so HERE.
🎨 TIE DYE PARTY – THIS SUNDAY, MAY 17TH | 5:00–6:30 PM
Spring training wraps up this Sunday, and we're going out in style! After practice, join us outside the Rec Center for our Tie Dye Party. If you're signed up for the summer swim team, you'll have a chance to tie dye your t-shirt, pick up your swim cap, enjoy some treats, and meet fellow swimmers outside of the water.
Not swimming in spring training? You're still welcome to come! And if you can't make it at all — no worries. We'll hold onto your shirt and cap for you.
🏊 OFFICIALS TRAINING – THIS FRIDAY
There is a meeting for returning officials this Friday (6 PM - West Woods Community Station 6644 Kendrick Drive, Arvada, CO 80007). This meeting is primarily intended for returning officials and will be relatively short — covering rule changes and answering questions. However, it is open to everyone.
Curious about becoming an official? It's a great way to be involved! Generally, you learn by shadowing experienced officials during meets — they'll walk you through the rules and answer questions until you feel confident. During a meet, officials rotate around the corners of the pool every 15 minutes. It's not for everyone, but it's a lot of fun and gives you an up-close view of the action. It's also an important role — and a rewarding one. For what it's worth, in my experience swimmers who receive a disqualification for incorrect technique almost always take the feedback gracefully.
For those interested in the stroke and meet rules, they can be found on our website HERE — it's only a few pages.
🌞 FIRST PRACTICE – FRIDAY, MAY 29TH AT ANDERSON POOL
The first day of summer practice coincides with the first day of summer vacation — Friday, May 29th, outside at Anderson Pool! Fridays are special: all swimmers, regardless of level, practice together starting at 7:30 AM. It's a great way to kick off the season as a full team.
And yes — Fridays are Donut Day! 🍩 Donuts are provided after practice, and most Fridays a parent volunteers to bring them. This first Friday, we've got it covered.
🏁 FIRST MEET – SATURDAY, MAY 30TH | SPLASH POOL, GOLDEN
Warm-ups begin at 6:20 AM, with the meet starting at 7:00 AM.
A note for newer families: with the school year ending so close to the start of the season, all teams are in the same boat — very few practices before the first meet. We encourage swimmers to focus on having fun! If your swimmer has never competed in a meet before, you might consider skipping this first one and making the following weekend their debut. There's no pressure either way.
Next week I'll share more details about how meets are organized and add helpful information to our Swimtopia page. For the overachievers among us, HERE is some early reading to guide you. 📚
🌊 ANDERSON POOL OPENS MAY 22ND
Want to check out the pool before the season starts? Anderson Pool opens to the public on May 22nd — just in time for Memorial Day weekend!
📣 HELP US GROW THE PIRANHAS!
Do you know a family who might love summer swim team? It's not too late to join! More swimmers means more fun, more community — and less volunteering required from each family to run the team. Share the word with neighbors, friends, and anyone looking for a great summer activity for their kids. Feel free to reach out if you need fliers or have questions about signing up.
See you Sunday at the Tie Dye Party! Go Piranhas! 🐟
As always - let us know if you have questions.
